Circa 1884
Commercial project for this stunning new hospitality venue in Berwick, Victoria.
If you’re a business looking to add a little flair to your space, you’ve come to the right team of people. From hospitality venues to aged care facilities, we’ve worked with a huge variety of different businesses to deliver their flooring and windows needs. We’re pretty impressed with how our latest project with Circa 1884 turned out, so let’s take a closer look…
Circa 1884 is located in Berwick, and is a majestic and luxurious cocktail bar situated in Berwick’s old courthouse. In order to compliment their opulent theme, we kept the colour scheme dark and moody, giving it an exclusive vibe.
Sticking to the use of classic blackout, roller blinds was the perfect choice in order to enhance the desired ambience, and including plush velvet swags and tails to top the window frames, provided an element of pure luxury and romance. We also incorporated thick, velvet drapes to seperate each room and further darken the space. What a perfect spot for date-night!
For the hardwood flooring option, we used Karndean Flooring’s Vinyl Paquet commercial grade flooring. We went with this particular option due to its hardwearing, non-slip and spill friendly nature; perfect for high-traffic areas and even better for a hospitality venue such as a bar!
And of course for the carpet, we couldn’t go past a custom Modieus carpet, in a fleur de lis pattern. This style truly is elegant, timeless and classic, with a luxurious texture throughout. Its navy shade with silver texture and accents throughout helped accompany the venue’s moody vibe, with a touch of added light and softness.
Our in-house interior designer Dallis consulted on the project, in order to bring their vision to life and breakdown the desired style and theme for the venue. Everything came to together exactly how the owners had imagined, and we are thrilled with the finished product.

Client renovation projects are what we do best! And when it comes to creating the space you’ve been dreaming of, we pride ourselves on ensuring your dreams are turned into one big reality with our team at D&M Flooring and Windows. We are in love with how this project turned out, and so are our clients, so let us take you through some of the details…
When it came to the flooring, we went with a gorgeous Herringbone pattern of quality hardwood flooring, to create a traditional and stylish look in the space. Flooring preparation is critical, and with careful attention to detail and care in our placement, we were able to create a stunning finish, and a consistent and seamless transition between the carpet and the Herringbone.
Did you know that the pattern of the flooring we chose to go with is called ‘Herringbone’ due to its visual similarity to the bone structure of a herring fish? This style of flooring can actually make a space appear larger and more open, due to the illusion of movement that it gives!
When it comes to the perfect flooring installation we pay close attention to our layers, as the types of layers seen in a project like this one cannot be rushed! And with excellent workmanship and close attention to details, everything came together perfectly.
Of course, a home renovation project isn’t complete without looking to the windows to tie it all together! And we made sure to address our client’s every need to create the ambience they were hoping for.
Looking to the window furnishings, we went with a denim shade to compliment our client’s vision; we added a curtain with black out backing over the S fold sheer fabric, and added padded pelmets to hide the tracks and fittings, which helped cut out light and nurture these amazing results! We fell in love with how the sheers kiss the floor, and soften the ambience created in the space. Overall, a contemporary French style was achieved and adds a beautiful base to our client’s freshly renovated home.
Everything truly did come together beautifully, and projects like these remind us of why we’ve been in this business for 50 years and absolutely love doing what we’re doing.

Pet Friendly Interiors
If you have pets, you will definitely need to consider this factor when choosing not only your flooring options for your new home, but also the window furnishings. Because a home isn’t all about the four walls and the roof above your head, but what’s inside of it; and if the family pet is a loving and cared-for member of the family, we want to help you look after them, as well as your flooring and window furnishings - because this is what we do best!
We understand the importance of maintaining your home to ensure it looks it’s best, and to ensure it stays looking as fresh as it was on move-in day! However, we also understand that this can be quite difficult to achieve when keeping in mind external factors such as young kids, a growing family, and above all; the family pets.
Whether you have dogs, cats, bunnies or birds; we recommend a durable and stylish, hardwood flooring option in the areas where your pets will frequent the most. This is because with pets, comes claws, paws, feathers, fur and so many components of their adorable beings, which can cause a fair bit of damage to your flooring. Go for surfaces such as vinyl, laminate flooring, or solid timber; all of these options are durable, while appearing stylish and adding to the aesthetic of your home.
However, we do understand that some areas of your home may be carpeted, or perhaps you’d like some plushy carpet in your bedroom and living room spaces, and lucky for you we do have some recommendations!
Carpet made with nylon-fibres can help achieve that contemporary look in your home, while being one of the most durable and resilient carpet choices, perfect for those of you with pets. It is strong enough to withhold any damage that may be caused by their paws and claws, and is also extremely easy to clean and handles stains well. Avoid materials such as wool, as these tend to be on the pricier side and you don’t want it getting damaged by your furry friends…
When weighing up your options for window furnishings, nothing beats a stunning venetian blind/plantation shutter; the biggest pro is that they don’t have dangly pull cords, so cats and dogs aren’t able to use them as toys and destroy your stunning blinds.
Here at D&M Flooring and Windows we are your local industry experts when it comes to all things flooring and windows; so if you’re considering ‘pet-proofing’ your new home, you can give us a call on 1300 795 768 for additional advice and tips.
Measuring for the perfect curtain length...
Your windows can attract the eyes of so many of your visitors so when it comes to the style of your curtain, to the material, all the way down to the length, each detail matters, so here are just a few pointers when it comes sizing & styling your curtains to perfection…
When designing & decorating the interior of our homes, we often focus on aspects such as; what furniture we’re going to buy, what the colour scheme is going to be, & what fixtures & detailings we’re going to decide on. However, we often forget some of the most important parts of the design process, one of these being the process of choosing how you are going to furnish & style your windows!
Your windows can attract the eyes of so many of your visitors, as they are large, allow for lots of light to enter the home, & they surround the perimeter of your home; so it is important that you are very particular when choosing how you are going to furnish them. From the style of curtain, to the material, all the way down to the length, each detail matters, so here are just a few pointers when it comes sizing & styling your curtains to perfection!
Ready to start? Well then, let’s get measuring…
That’s right, the most important step to the process is figuring out your measurements so you have an idea of what you can work with in terms of sizing. It also makes it easier for you to figure out what curtains you’re going to choose, & how much they are going to cost once you've established how much fabric you will need. So pull out the tape measure & take your measurements from the bottom of the floor, all the way to where your curtain rod will be sitting.
Did you know that if you'd like to make your windows appear higher & larger, you can add just a few centimetres to your measurements?
Once you've gotten your measurements down, it’s time to figure out what sort of style you'd like your curtain length to be, & by that we mean where you'd like the bottom of them to sit.
For example, in a kitchen it would be appropriate to have the bottom of your curtains sitting just at the window sill, as the windows are normally placed a lot higher, & it will ensure you don't damage them with spills & stains. However, in the lounge room or the bedroom, you may want to go with floor-length curtains as they can make the room appear larger & are generally easier to open & close. There are so many more styles out there, so start researching what would best suit your home and lifestyle!
If this all sounds just a little bit overwhelming, or perhaps you just don't know where to begin & need a little assistance, we've got you covered. Give us a call on 1300 795 768 today & speak to a member of our team of experts who can give you a free measure & quote!
