Selecting the perfect rug

Picking our the perfect rug for your style comes down to personal choice but we have a few things to consider when it comes to size, colours and patterns that might help you.

Picking our the perfect rug for your style comes down to personal choice but we have a few things to consider when it comes to size, colours and patterns that might help you.

Size

When selecting a rug size there are three generic choices, these are  5x8, 8x10, or 9x12. However custom rugs can easily be made to perfectly suit your room and your furniture layout.

Depending if you want only some or all of your furniture to rest on the rug, we suggest leaving at least 18 inches of bare floor exposed around your rug’s edges.

Colours

The colour of your rug is a very important decision as it will set the tone for the entire room.

You will need to consider the tone of your floor and also your furniture. If your room has a lot of colour and patterns, you may want to opt for a neutral rug with one single colour.

If you want your rug to be a focal point in the room, choose a brighter colour that will complement your walls and furniture.

If you have a small room, a light floor will help reflect light and result in the appearance of a larger space. A simple light coloured rug would be a cost effective solution to lightening up your floor.

If you have a lot of solid colours in your room, consider a patterned rug. Pick out colours from your sofa, artwork, drapes or cushions to bring consistency to the room.

If you are still unsure what would best suit your space and style, chat to our in-house interior designer, Dallis. She will help you match your rug to your home and your budget!

With great focus on the importance of hygiene at the moment, we thought it would be appropriate to increase your awareness of some antimicrobial flooring products we have available for your home and workplace.

As well as vinyl and PVC flooring options, you can now get antimicrobial backed carpets. Antimicrobials not only helps keep the area you don’t see cleaner, it also helps flooring last longer.

We supply and fit Beaulieu Carpets - Australia’s only carpet manufacturer that has a range of broadloom carpets that are approved by the Sensitive Choice program of the National Asthma Council Australia.

These carpets are engineered to help provide a healthier indoor environment for your family that can effectively control, bacteria, fungi, mould & mildew, algae and house dust mites by incorporating antimicrobial technology into the latex or secondary backing.

Beaulieu Australia has added Ultra-Fresh protection to selected products in both their residential and commercial ranges. The main “objective” of an antimicrobial product is to inhibit or kill other microorganisms, helping to keep the backing cleaner and fresher.

The photos below show you an example of a treated vs untreated carpet backing. Under the right conditions, mould and mildew can flourish by using the carpet latex as a favourite food source, especially when moisture becomes trapped underneath
